(Sports Network) - A pair of surging Atlantic Division rivals will meet today in Pittsburgh, as the Penguins welcome the New York Rangers for this afternoons clash at CONSOL Energy Center. Cheap San Jose Sharks Jerseys . The game can be seen starting at 12:30pm et/9:30am pt on TSN2. New York has won three straight and five of its last six games, while the Penguins have won two in a row and are 5-1-2 over their last eight contests. Pittsburgh enters today with 90 points, placing the Pens six behind Philadelphia for the Atlantic lead. Dan Bylsmas club is also fourth in the Eastern Conference and one point in front of idle Tampa Bay. The Rangers are currently seventh in the East and two points ahead of Buffalo for the conferences final postseason berth. Todays battle in the Steel City marks the final regular-season meeting between the Pens and Blueshirts this year. New York has taken three of five from Pittsburgh this season, but the Penguins still have 10 victories in the last 14 encounters overall. The Rangers have won three straight in Pittsburgh, including both of their games at the Penguins new arena. Pittsburgh has recorded consecutive 5-1 victories, beating the visiting Edmonton Oilers last Sunday before notching Tuesdays win in Ottawa. Jordan Staal and Tyler Kennedy both notched a goal and an assist to lead five different Pittsburgh goal scorers, as the Penguins rolled past Ottawa, 5-1, at Scotiabank Place. Zbynek Michalek, Ben Lovejoy and Matt Cooke also tallied for Pittsburgh, which has won four of its last five games. Chris Kunitz posted three assists in the win while Brent Johnson made 21 saves. "Its nice that we can compliment each other when were out there and put pucks to the right areas. Its nice to be successful," Kunitz said of new linemates Staal and Kennedy. Of course, The Penguins are still awaiting the possible return of captain Sidney Crosby. The Penguins have been without the services of Crosby since Jan. 5 because of a concussion, but the center is still tops on the club with 32 goals and 66 points. Crosby began skating on Monday for the first time since his injury and has continued to work out on the ice. However, it is still unknown when, or if, the superstar can return to game action this season. Another Penguins forward could return from a concussion today, however, as Arron Asham is expected to be activated from injured reserve in time for this afternoons game. Asham last played on Feb. 1, when he sustained a concussion against the Rangers. Pittsburgh is 22-12-2 as the host this season and has won two of its last three tilts on home ice. The Rangers played Friday night against Montreal and recorded a 6-3 victory over the visiting Canadiens. Artem Anisimov totaled a goal and an assist in the first period as New York used a five-goal opening frame to lead the club to its first three-game winning streak since Jan. 5-7. Dan Girardi, Marian Gaborik, Brian Boyle and Ryan Callahan all scored in the first period to help the Rangers. "We wanted to start off good at home," said Girardi. "The fans really got us going, they were nice and loud and we got off to a great first period." Henrik Lundqvist stopped 22 shots for New York and became the first goaltender in NHL history to record at least 30 wins in each of his first six seasons. However, Lundqvist, who is 30-24-4 this season, is questionable for todays game with a stiff neck. Chad Johnson will get the start if New Yorks No. 1 backstop cant go today. Kobe Bryant scored 31 points, Bynum posted the Lakers first playoff triple-double in 21 years, and Los Angeles thoroughly controlled the tempo in a playoff-opening 103-88 victory Sunday. The Bulldogs (25-9) shot 54 percent from the field and made 9-of-15 attempts from behind the arc, numbers they will look to replicate when they play third- seeded BYU on Saturday. Steven Gray and Elias Harris chipped in 16 and 15 points, respectively, for Gonzaga, which has rattled off 10 straight wins, including a victory over Saint Marys in the West Coast Conference tourney final last week. http://www.stitchednflcheapjerseys.com/ . -- John Farrell has plenty of reasons to be bummed that the Toronto Blue Jays wont be back in Kansas City this season. wholesale jerseys . Schalke general manager Horst Heldt said Thursday that he made an offer to extend Rauls contract, which expires at the end of the season, in an email to the Spaniards representative, Gines Carvajal. STANFORD, Calif. -- Most visitors to Jim Plunketts house want to see his Heisman Trophy. Maybe even pose for a photo with the bronze statue and the only Stanford alum to win the prestigious award. Not Andrew Luck. Hes a meat and potatoes kind of guy. During a homemade dinner Plunkett hosted at his house last year, Luck stuck to the basics: a plate of beef tenderloin, potatoes and other vegetables Plunkett cooked for the current crop of Cardinal quarterbacks, sprinkled with a side of football talk past and present. The tantalizing trophy room down the hall stayed vacant. "I dont think he ever walked over there," Plunkett said. "We dont necessarily talk about the Heisman." Not after decades of disappointment. Three runners-up. Countless snubs. In the years since Plunkett brought the Heisman back to the Bay Area in 1970, no West Coast player outside of Southern California has won the award. John Elway finished second and so did Toby Gerhart and Luck the last two years. "It would be nice to have another Stanford player come out to New York with me as a winner," Plunkett said in an interview with The Associated Press this week. "I would take a certain amount of pride in that. I look forward to that happening someday. Hopefully its going to happen with Andrew Luck. I dont know. I certainly hope it does." How soon the drought ends could depend largely on this week. Luck will take the biggest and brightest stage of his career Saturday night when he leads undefeated and third-ranked Stanford against No. 6 Oregon, the only team to defeat the Cardinal and the star quarterback during a two-year run of near-perfection. A national television audience will be watching college footballs showcase game, including voters looking for Luck to seize the moment and perhaps a spot in the sports most famed fraternity. Just ask last years winner. "I think this week is going to be a very good test," said Cam Newton, the Carolina Panthers rookie and former Auburn quarterback. "Ive been tuning in and Im a big fan of Andrew Luck. I had an opportunity to meet him last year and I think hes an unbelievable guy, first off. And on the field, well, everybody sees what he does on the field. "Im rooting for him." The difference between taking home the award and losing it could be the difference between a win and a loss against an Oregon team that stifled Stanfords offence in the second half last season. If Luck helps avenge that 52-31 defeat in Eugene and keeps the Cardinal (9-0, 7-0 Pac-12) in the national championship race, he could run away from the pack. If he and Stanford stumble, the race could get tighter in a hurry. As former winners know, big games make or break Heisman moments. "You have to get hot at the right time," said Carson Palmer, the Oakland Raiders quarterback and 2002 Heisman winner at Southern California. "Its kind of like the playoffs in the NFL or basketball. If you get hot in March Madness or you get hot in the NFL playoffs, it doesnt matter what your regular-season record was if you start playing your best football at the right time. "So right now its kind of go-get-it time for him." Luck began the season as one of the most overwhelming favourites for the award in years. After turning down a chance to be the NFL drafts No. 1 pick and making scouts salivate over his potential for another year, Luck has matched the hype and -- perhaps more importantly -- kept Stanford perfect. While Luck might win the win award anyway, another loss to Oregon would always be a blemish. Elway returned for his senior year in 1982 and became the NFLs top pick the following April, although a loss in the Big Game against rival California with the infamous image of thee Stanford band running on the field on the final play might have cost him the trophy. Cheap Minnesota Timberwolves Jerseys. Plunkett, meanwhile, led Stanford to the Rose Bowl his final year during one of the programs golden eras. Lucks legacy at Stanford is still unfinished. "I hope it may be defined by more down the road. Maybe more big games," Luck said. "Dan Marino never won the big game. Hes obviously one of the great players of all time. So you want to win the big games, but you dont get caught up in it. Maybe down the road youll think back and say, Im glad my legacy was created by this game or whatever. But I dont want to get caught up in it now." Luck cares more now than he shows on the surface. While he is nothing if not humble, he admits the award would mean so much to so many others close to him and the university. A copy of Plunketts Heisman rests, ever so lonely, in a glass case a few steps from where Lucks weekly roundtable with reporters is held. Luck acknowledged he has glanced at the award a time or two. In the midst of a rigorous season, though, the bronze statuette may seem secondary. The honour often comes to mean more in the years that follow. "It changed my life because, I mean, theres only 75 (other) people that ever won a Heisman Trophy," said Alabamas 2009 Heisman winner, Mark Ingram, now the New Orleans Saints running back. "So youre in an elite group, an elite fraternity of brothers that everybody cant be a part of, so its something special." Luck has been riding the wave of Stanfords spectacular start. The quarterbacks statistics are superb -- 2,424 yards, 26 touchdown passes and a 174.1 passer rating that is fifth in the country -- but not all that more than other contenders. The difference is Alabamas Trent Richardson, Baylors Robert Griffin III, Boise States Kellen Moore, Wisconsins Russell Wilson and Oregons LaMichael James all are on teams outside of the national title race -- for now -- and none have received the attention that has surrounded Luck since spring practice. Stanford played a relatively weak first-half schedule until topping USC in triple overtime two weeks ago, a game where Luck threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown late in regulation, then rallied the Cardinal with four straight TD drives in a moment that might come to symbolize his Heisman campaign. That is, depending on what happens against Stanfords Pac-12 North rival. "They have a big game this week with Oregon coming to town, and they win that I think theyll be in the BCS title game," said Gerhart, the Minnesota Vikings running back and Stanfords runner-up in 2009. "So big one for him. As long he keeps performing -- it helps when theyre winning and they get national games on TV -- theres no doubt in my mind hes the best college player in the land." While many Heisman members will be watching a continent away, Plunkett will be in attendance as he is for most Stanford home games. The former Cardinal and Oakland Raiders quarterback has known Luck almost four years and has cheered every step of his evolution -- as a quarterback, student and public speaker. One of his fondest memories was watching Luck handle himself in a TV interview earlier this year. As Plunkett looked on with his wife, Geraldine, the two couldnt help but chuckle. "He was humble, somewhat shy, and he stumbled a little bit and didnt know quite what to say," Plunkett said. "It reminded me of me. Its just reminiscent how I acted at one point in my life." Back before he was a Heisman winner. ------ AP Sports Writers Josh Dubow in Alameda, Calif., Steve Reed in Charlotte, N.C., Brett Martel in Metarie, La., and Dave Campbell in Eden Prairie, Minn., contributed to this story.
