BUFFALO, N. nfl jerseys china .Y. -- On a day Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula reiterated his faith in the slumping team, his players paid him back with a much-needed victory. After Buffalo gave up a two-goal lead, Jason Pominville scored the go-ahead goal on a nifty setup from Thomas Vanek with 5:47 left in the second period, and the Sabres held on for a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night. Buffalo snapped a three-game winless skid (0-2-1) and earned only its third victory in 12 games (3-7-2). They bounced back from a 2-0 loss at Toronto on Tuesday to give them a semblance of momentum as they prepare to embark on a seven-game road trip that opens Saturday at the Islanders. "It wasnt our best game, so it was nice to be able to get that one," Pominville said. "It was fun to see guys keep their composure. Were not going through the stretch we would want, but we were playing well." Paul Gaustad had a goal and an assist, Matt Ellis also scored and Patrick Kaleta had two assists for the Sabres, a high-priced team thats been criticized for under-achieving over the past two months. Pegula came to his players defence in a series of interviews with several media outlets, including The Associated Press. The first-year owner blamed the Sabres struggles on a rash of injuries, and expressed confidence his team is not far off from bouncing back. "Its nice of him to put that belief in us," said goalie Ryan Miller, who made 24 saves. "Weve got a lot more work to pay him back." Mikhail Grabovski had a goal and assist and Joey Crabb also scored for the Maple Leafs, who blew a chance to move eight games over .500 for the first time since closing the 2006-07 season at 40-31-11, according to STATS LLC. They also snapped a four-game winning streak, failing to get their first five-game streak since Jan. 27 to Feb. 6, 2007. A slow start proved too much for the Maple Leafs to overcome after they fell behind 2-0 before the game was four minutes old. "A couple of bad bounces early put us behind the eight-ball," Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf said, noting how Ellis game-opening goal banked in off the skate of Leafs defender Cody Franson. "We fought, we just didnt have enough to even it up in the third." Miller made two key stops in the final nine minutes, including getting his right pad out just in time to turn aside Fransons shot from the right circle. Franson and Nazem Kadri also had shots ring off the post on consecutive chances 22 seconds apart in the second period. "We didnt have much puck luck," Leafs coach Ron Wilson said. "We didnt get enough shots from the middle of the rink to scramble them up. And thats something that let us down. But all in all, I thought we played well." The Sabres played better, with Pominvilles decisive goal coming on a heads-up play from Vanek. Chasing down a loose puck at the right boards, Vanek drove down to the red line before flipping a pass through the crease, past two defenders. The puck bounced directly onto Pominvilles stick, allowing him to snap it into the open right side. It was all about anticipation and making eye contact, according to Pominville. "I knew the whole time he was going to make the play," he said. "It just landed right on my stick. I just had to settle it down and put it away. It was one of those plays not many guys can make." In a season of endless line shuffles, coach Lindy Ruff has stuck with Pominville and Vanek, who have now combined to score 12 of the Sabres 34 goals in the last 16 games. "Thats why theyre staying together," Ruff said of a banged-up team thats had 18 players miss at least one game due to injury. "They know where each other are going to be most of the time. They look for those types of plays." That injury number could hit 19 after rookie defenceman Brayden McNabb did not return after leaving the game with about 12 minutes left in the third. Ruff said McNabb continued playing but eventually didnt feel well after being shaken up following an open-ice collision with Kadri in the first period. The Jets, who have played the most games in the NHL, now get a break in the schedule with their next game not until Tuesday, at home against Tampa Bay Lightning, with the home stand coming to a close with games Thursday against Carolina Hurricanes and Saturday afternoon against the New York Islanders. (All games TSN Jets and TSN 1290.) The Jets are still outside the top eight in the East as they did not get any help on the out of town scoreboard. The scoring was fast and furious in the first against the Panthers. Aaron Gagnon scored his second in as many games at 3:54 but 52 seconds later TJ Brennan tied the game. 18 seconds after that Evander Kane restored the lead only to have Tomas Fleischmann tie it 1:27 later. Before the period was out Andrew Ladd (16th) put the Jets in front for good. Jets outshot Panthers 17-9 in the first. Coach Claude Noel called a time out after the Fleischmann goal asking his team to tighten up defensively. The Jets blew the game open in the second with three straight goals, giving them 10 goals in the second period over the past three games. With George Parros off for tripping it took Grant Clitsome (4th) nine seconds to make it a two goal lead. That was followed 18 seconds later by a Dustin Byfuglien goal (7th), which was followed 1:22 later by Kanes second of the night (16th) as the second period ended 6-2 Jets. Jets did have a five on three in the second and for the seventh time this season failed to score with the two man advantage. Parros took a double minor for unsportsmanlike conduct, and that was followed by a major to Eric Gudbransson for a hit to the head of Bryan Little. Cheap San Diego Padres Jerseys. Little would need repairs but would return. The only goal of the third was a deflection by Chris Thorburn (2nd). Ladd, Kane, Little, Byfuglien and Zach Bogosian all had two point nights. Kane now had 3-2-5 in the last three games, Ladd ran his point streak to four, 2-4-6, Little with two assists is 1-5-6 in the last three games with three straight two point games, while Wellwood extended his point streak to five games, 2-3-5. After being a plus three against Buffalo, Clitsome was again a plus three, while Byfuglien lead the team at plus four. Byfuglien had five shots on goal after going back to back games without a shot on goal. Clitsome also had five shots on goal. Byfuglien lead the Jets in ice time at 24:08.The Jets top line of Ladd, Little and Wheeler has now combined for 15 points over the past three games. Ondrej Pavelec won his 18th game of the year. Jets have now scored first in three of the last four games, and also scored a power play goal that snapped a 0-21 drought over the past seven games. In the last 13 games that Little has picked up a point, the Jets are 13-0. On the back and forth in the first period Coach Claude Noel had this to say – "Theres growth, theres lessons to be learned," adding, "there will be a lot of levels of joy in the next few days. A lot of guys played good, its contagious." As for the plan for the next few days, "It will be a time to recharge the batteries, get away from the rink. Rest up for the final six games we have to win." ' ' '
