DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies have declined their half of a mutual option on Rafael Betancourt, making the right-handed reliever whos coming off an arm injury a free agent. Betancourt was 2-5 with a 4.08 ERA and 16 saves for the Rockies last season before tearing a ligament in his pitching elbow. He considered undergoing platelet-rich plasma therapy to fix his arm, but announced in August his decision to have Tommy John surgery. The 38-year-old Betancourt spent parts of five seasons with the Rockies after being acquired from the Cleveland Indians in 2009. He had 31 saves for Colorado in 2012. Betancourt will receive a $250,000 buyout. Art Shell Raiders Jersey . While Canadian women have stood on the Olympic podium in the sport, a Canadian man never has. Justin Tuck Jersey . Roy Hibbert scored 22 points and Lance Stephenson fell just short of his fourth triple double this season, helping the Pacers hold off Torontos late charge for an 86-79 victory that allowed them to keep the NBAs best record.PHILADELPHIA -- The Braves took advantage of a little help from their opposition. Justin Upton had two hits and three RBIs, and the Atlanta Braves were helped by two straight Ryan Howard errors in a 10-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the first game of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Tommy La Stella hit a three-run triple and Chris Johnson drove in two runs for the Braves, who have won four of five. Atlanta trailed 2-0 before tying it in the fourth on two unearned runs. "You make an error and give teams extra opportunities, and sometimes theyll make you pay for it," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We only got two runs out of those errors, but it got us back in the game. You have to take advantage of those. If you give opportunities to good baseball teams, theyre going to get you." Tony Gwynn Jr. and Ben Revere had a pair of hits for the slumping Phillies, who have lost six of eight. Philadelphia scored three runs or less for the 40th time, dropping to 7-33 in those contests. The Phillies also fell to 18-25 at hitter-friendly Citizens Bank Park, where they entered Saturday batting .229 as a team. While the offence didnt shine, it was the defence that really let Philadelphia down this time. Howard made two costly errors in the fourth inning, resulting in two unearned runs that allowed the Braves to tie the game at 2. Freddie Freemans hard-hit grounder went through Howards legs and the error put runners on second and third. "It was a possible double-play ball and we wouldve been out of the inning," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "It changed the whole game." The next batter, Upton, hit a medium grounder to first but reached safely when Howard bobbled and then lost control of the ball. Simmons scored on that error and Freeman, who went to third on the play, then reached on Jason Heywards groundout to first. Fans gave a sarcastic cheer when Howard made the putout of Heyward. "We have to tighten up on the defensive end," Sandberg said. Atlanta then went ahead in the sixth on Uptons two-run double off the wall in left. The teams were scheduled to play the nightcap at 7:15, with Atlanta right-hander David Hale (3-2, 2.72) facing Phillies right-hander Sean OSullivan, who is making his 2014 debut after being called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley for the spot start. Ervin Santana (6-5) snapped a four-game winless streak after allowing two runs on seven hiits with five strikeouts and one walk in 6 2/3 innings.dddddddddddd Santana had lost his last three starts with a 5.89 ERA in those outings. But he was strong after the first two innings against the Phillies, retiring nine straight during one stretch and surrendering just three hits after the second inning. "It was a great effort," Gonzalez said. "We were looking for that kind of outing to be able to save the bullpen." Said Santana, "In the first inning, a couple pitches were up. After that, I just made a good adjustment and kept the ball down for the most part." Roberto Hernandez (3-7) didnt allow a hit through 3 1-3 innings and ended up giving up just three hits in seven innings with two strikeouts and three walks. Two of the four runs he allowed were unearned. "His pitching was better than his line," Sandberg said. "The defence let him down in the fourth inning, but he hung in there and pitched pretty well." The Braves broke the game open in the eighth when they scored five runs off Antonio Bastardo, snapping an 11 1-3 inning scoreless streak for the Philadelphia bullpen. La Stella had the big blow, a bases-clearing triple that pushed the Atlanta lead to 8-2. It was the first career triple for the rookie La Stella, who had two hits in his last 30 at-bats prior to the hit. The Phillies jumped in front 2-0. Gwynn Jr. snapped an 0-for-23 skid by tripling with one out in the first and scored on Howards single to left. It was Gwynns first hit since the June 16 death of his Hall of Fame father. Hernandez helped himself in the second inning when he recorded his first career RBI by singling home Koyie Hill. Notes: Hill, a catcher, was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley Friday after Carlos Ruiz was placed on the 7-day DL with concussion-like symptoms. Philadelphias regular backup catcher, Will Nieves, has been on the DL since June 19 with a right quad strain. . Atlanta C Evan Gattis, who left due to back spasms after striking out in the first inning on Friday night, didnt play. His replacement, Gerald Laird, went 0-for-3. . Philadelphia Flyers goalie Steve Mason, in town for the NHL Draft at the Wells Fargo Center Friday and Saturday, was in attendance. . Following the second game of Saturdays doubleheader, the Phillies and Braves will conclude their four-game series at 1:35 Sunday afternoon with Atlanta RHP Aaron Harang (6-6, 3.78) facing Philadelphia RHP David Buchanan (4-3, 4.79). cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

DETROIT -- As Johan Franzen goes, the Detroit Red Wings have followed this season. Franzen scored three goals to help the suddenly potent Red Wings roll to a 5-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night. Detroit has won two straight with a combined 10 goals after scoring a total of six in a six-game skid following a 5-0 start. "Its hard to believe they struggled like that," said Colorados Kyle Quincey, a former Red Wings defenceman. "Theyre too good of a team for that." They are much better when Franzen produces on offence. In Detroits seven wins, Franzen has eight goals and 13 points. He has been held scoreless in its six losses. The six-foot-three, 223-pound forward known as "Mule" can be dominant when he shoots often, skates hard and plays physical. "Hes a huge, gifted man," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. Franzen, though, is prone to falling into deep slumps that keep him off the score sheet. Since starting strong in the previous 5-0 win in which he had a goal and two assists against Anaheim, Franzen and the Red Wings have gotten into a groove. "Weve been more relaxed since scoring the first two goals against Anaheim," Franzen said. "It seemed like the whole team got a load off our shoulders and we started to play better. We have the skill, but we had a lack of confidence." Nicklas Lidstrom started the scoring with a slap shot from the slot off a giveaway midway through the first period. "When everyone is gripping the stick too hard, Nick is usually the one to step up for us," Franzen said. Franzen gave the Red Wings a three-goal lead in the second period and chased goalie Semyon Varlamov. Dan Cleary scored off his own rebound against Jean-Sebastien Giguere to essentially seal the win with 5:14 left. Milan Hejduk pulled the Avalanche within two goals a couple minutes later, but Franzen scored an empty-net goal with 31.3 seconds left after Giguere was pulled for an extra skater. "Its a step in the right direction," Babcock said. "Our best players have come to life. It was just a matter of time." Detroits Jimmy Howard made 24 saves. Varlamov gave up three goals on 16 shots, and Giguere had 12 saves. Colorado (7-7-1) is in a 1-5-1 rut because of its offensive struggles, scoring two goals or fewer in five games during its slide. "Weve just got to get out of this funk," Quincey said. Gabriel Landeskog got the Avalanche within 3-1 midway through the second period. The Avalanche dug a hole when defenceman Ryan Wilson sent the puck from behind his net to between the circles, where Lidstrom was waiting to let go his slap shot and score his sixth of the season. Franzens first two goals of the night, both on the power play, pushed Detroits lead to 3-0. "Our penalty kill has just got to do a better job," Avs forward David Jones said. "Every time we take a penalty, theyre scoring." Franzen deflected a shot for his first goal, ending an impressive sequence in which he, Valtteri Filppula, Jiri Hudler and Henrik Zetterberg touched the puck in the Colorado zone. He also redirected the puck on a slap pass from Niklas Kronwall in the second period. "You get down a couple of goals to this team, its a tough chore to come back," Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said. "I think were frustrated right now. Nothing we can do about it. We put ourselves in this situation." NOTES: Franzen has two regular-season hat tricks and three in the playoffs, including two against Colorado in the 2008 post-season. ... Gordie Howe watched the game with his son, Mark, who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame next week. ... Colorados only win since Oct. 22 was on Oct. 30 against Los Angeles. ... Maxime Presseaults goal at 13:59 of the second period broke a 2-2 deadlock for the Foreurs, who trailed the series 3-2 before winning back-to-back games, and Guillaume Gelinas and Pierre-Maxime Poudrier also scored. Marcus Allen Jersey . Fortunately for the Ragin Cajuns, they had Corey Trim to make a game-changing play on defence. "I just think what it does for everybody in life is real simple," said Babcock early on Friday afternoon. "You dont give in. You just keep on keeping on. Is it going to go your way every time? No. But you choose your attitude and how you perform and how hard you dig in." Nearly four years to the day of the 2010 gold medal match in Vancouver, his team dug in with its best effort of these Olympics, snuffing out the high-powered Americans for another opportunity at gold. The line between victory and failure was painfully thin at Bolshoy Ice Dome in a Friday evening clash of the tournaments two deepest teams, but ultimately Carey Price on the prowl, another Jamie Benn marker and a stiff Canadian defensive effort prevailed in a tight 1-0 win. "If we were to think about that result and visualize it at the start of the day, wed say, mission accomplished," Price remarked afterward. Their scoring struggles may have continued in victory – just four goals of offence in the past nine periods of regulation – but what Canada continued to do exceptionally well is defend, holding a potent U.S. team completely off the board. The Americans entered the night as the tournaments most fearsome offensive attack, scoring 20 goals in their first four games including five alone from Phil Kessel. But they were stifled by the Canadians, who have allowed, incredibly, just three goals and only two at even-strength. "Thats been something from Day 1 that weve really believed in and trust that thats a big part of having success here," said Sidney Crosby. "You see the games from every team at this point are pretty tight. Thats a common theme. And theres not much separating each team." Though the pace was absolutely frantic, the Canadians generally managed the feared American speed. Much of that effort came from simply controlling possession, forcing the likes of Kessel and Patrick Kane to defend a lot more than theyd like. "We forced them to play in the defensive zone a lot," said Crosby. "Theyve got a lot of guys who are skilled and create a lot of speed, but I think we did a good job of keeping them in there for at least 20 seconds in shifts. Hopefully that played a part in taking away their energy offensively." Toews and linemates, Jeff Carter and Patrick Marleau, drew the assignment of the slowing the Kessel line – which also featured Joe Pavelski, who had the most goals in the NHL since Jan. 1 and James van Riemsdyk – and did so in part by back-checking with fevered passion, a commitment that was shared by the rest of the Canadian forward contingent. Kessel had a rush or two of consequence early, but was held to four shots and none in the final frame. "It was just work ethic," said Toews. "It was good sticks, I think we had active sticks … we didnt stop moving our feet, and we were committed to doing the job rightt.dddddddddddd Our penalty kill was great tonight, too. Those are the things, whether youre winning a Stanley Cup or an Olympic gold medal, those are the things you need to do." Zach Parise led the U.S. with eight shots and had one of the better opportunities to score in the second, redirecting a Patrick Kane pass attempt on Price, one of 31 shots turned aside by the 26-year-old in his first Olympic shutout. Price was facing the biggest and most scrutinized test of his career and he aced it, outdueling the always impressive Jonathan Quick. A stoic and unwavering personality, Price, a native of Anahim Lake, B.C., was cool in his fourth start of these Games and made the difficult look effortless. Maybe his most impressive stop of the evening saw John Carlson robbed by the glove in a scoreless opening frame. "I thought he was great," said Babcock. "The game was close. Its 1-0, its tight, and all those shots coming he had to make big saves, just like Quick did. Its not like there wasnt chances tonight. There was chances both ways, its just that the goalies are so good in todays world it makes it hard to get pucks by them." "Im just soaking in this moment right now," said Price, who owns a .963 save percentage thus far. Benn proved the only player on either team to score. The 24-year-old scored his second goal (and second game-winner) by redirecting a Jay Bouwmeester point shot past Quick, who was often awesome himself in turning aside 36 shots, including all 16 in a busy first frame. Only four Canadian forwards have scored with a game to go and if there is a concern heading into Sundays final with Sweden, its just that. Like the quarterfinal game against Latvia, there were numerous chances against the Americans on this night with only one resulting in a goal. Patrice Bergeron had an early backhand opportunity eschewed by Quicks blocker. Carter was stopped by the pads moments later. Two good chances for Patrick Sharp, who offered energy on an effective fourth line with Matt Duchene and Rick Nash, also failed to materialize into anything other than a shot or two on goal. "Weve had unbelievable opportunities and still havent finished," Babcock. "Were going to finish. We just hope we dont run out of time." A journey that started six months ago at an orientation camp in Calgary will conclude Sunday against the injury-riddled, overlooked and still dangerous Swedes, who topped Finland in the other semifinal. In line with Babcocks desired mantra at these Olympics, the Canadians have gotten better every day and know that will have to continue if theyre to repeat with gold for the first time in more than 60 years and also join the undeterred womens squad, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit to capture their fourth consecutive gold on Thursday night. "Each and every level of the Stanley Cup playoffs, youve got to keep getting better and its the same here," said Babcock, who will face four of his Red Wing players in the gold medal match. "What I do know about the Swedes and I know lots of them actually, theyre good players and they play with no ego and itll be about the team. Theyve been really good here. Theyre going to be a hard test. We understand that." cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

TORONTO – Brett Lawries impending return from hamstring tightness creates a problem – a good problem – for manager John Gibbons. That is, how does he keep the red hot bat of Juan Francisco in the lineup when first base is taken by Edwin Encarnacion and Adam Lind is back as the designated hitter? "Maybe Francisco can play second," joked Gibbons. In all seriousness, Francisco has been a revelation for the ballclub since signing a minor league deal on April 2 and arriving in Cleveland to meet his new Blue Jays teammates on April 20. Coming off an 18-home run season split between Atlanta and Milwaukee last year, Franciscos already hit five in 61 at-bats for Toronto. He doesnt get cheated, either, having deposited one in the fourth deck of Rogers Centre, just above Paul Beestons name on the Blue Jays Level of Excellence. Franciscos slash line of .311/.403/.623 (1.026 OPS) is well above his career .248/.308/.447 (.755 OPS) but even if his history suggests his numbers will regress the longer he plays, until it happens, Francisco needs to stay in the lineup. "Right now were looking at everything," said manager John Gibbons. "While hes hot weve got to find a way to keep him in there somehow." The obvious play is to move Brett Lawrie to second base. It doesnt have to be permanent. Lawrie, should the decision be made, hopes its only temporary. "Im going to do it because its for the team but Im not necessarily amazed about it," said Lawrie. "Im a third baseman. Its where I play. Its what Ive been doing. Its what I did to work to get here. Obviously Francisco is swinging a hot bat but were going to have to find another way to get him in the lineup, who knows, but if I do get put at second base thats how it goes. Ill just do it for my team." Look at this hypothetical starting lineup with Francisco at third base and Lawrie at second base: Reyes – SSCabrera – LFBautista – RFEncarnacion – 1BFrancisco – 3BNavarro – CLind – DHLawrie – 3BRasmus – CF One through nine, wheres the easy out? The Blue Jays would be giving something up defensively with the realignment but Francisco has proven to be more adept at third base in Lawries absence than expected. "Ive been very impressed," said Gibbons. "I think that was his rap. His defence was the reason he never really established himself but we havent seen it. Of course hes not Lawrie down there but how many guys are?" Dont count on Saturday being Lawries return date. He took ground balls on Friday afternoon and participated in batting practice for a second consecutive day. Its part of the process of ramping up the effort level, testing his sore right hamstring. "Ive still got to do some other stuff baseball-wise," said Lawrie. "Ive still got to get up to relatively full speed to see how were doing. Ran on the treadmill today at a little bit higher pace so feeling a little bit better." Lawries willing to be a team guy. He also wants the appropriate recognition for his gold glove caliber play at the hot corner. "Im a third baseman," said Lawrie. "I worked my butt off to get where Im at. Im not saying its not going to help the team. Im here to do what it is to help the team but I worked my butt off to be that good at third base and continue to do what Im doing. I work everyday over there. Still continuing to get my work in and second base, it is what it is, man, its not what Im here to do. I worked my butt off to do what I do out there." Now not only could that game be lost, but the Knicks All-Star is concerned there may not be any basketball at all this season. "Right now, anybody would be," he said Wednesday. "They cancel the first two weeks of the season, maybe in a couple of days they cancel another two weeks of the season. So I dont know how to feel right now." He wanted to play in Denver on Nov. 16, just to get the trip to his first NBA home out of the way. He knows it could be a "circus" when he does go back, but said: "I cant shy away from that. Ive got to deal with it." "Obviously once they said the first two weeks was going to be cancelled, of course the Denver game was highlighted on the calendar, not just for me but for everybody. So right now, that has a chance to be up in flames now." The current season opener is Nov. 15, but games slated for the rest of that month could be gone if there is no collective bargaining agreement soon. The schedule will be rewritten whenever the NBA does return, so its unknown if the Knicks would still end up in Denver on Nov. 16. "Looks like everything is up in jeopardy," Anthony said. Anthony released his Melo M8 on Wednesday, his eighth Jordan sneaker and first since being traded to the Knicks in February. Anthony said the sneaker, with a suggested retail of $135, was his lightest model by far. The move to New York has given him more opportunities for exposure, part of the reason he was looking to leave Denver. He could have become a free agent this summer and left through that route, but pushed for a trade to get it done during the season so he could get under contract under the old rules. And thoough he took some criticism from Knicks fans who would have preferred getting him for nothing instead of a costly trade, he made the correct financial decision given the current lockout.dddddddddddd "I think I did the right thing. For the average person out there who really thought I was just trying to get up and just leave for no reason, that really was a big key in my decision," Anthony said. "I knew free agency was coming, I knew it would be altered, I knew itd be messed up, so imagine if Id have stayed. Id have been a free agent now in limbo. Itd have just been all bad." But he played well while awaiting the deal and the Nuggets ended up getting great value, acquiring Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton and centre Timofey Mozgov and trading Chauncey Billups. So the No. 3 pick in the 2003 draft expects a mostly positive reception whenever he does return. "I dont think I did anything wrong to the Denver fans. I think Ive been loyal to them for 7 1/2 years, so for me to go back -- of course youre going to have some boos and people weeping and whining about it -- but for the most part I can say I did a hell of a job out there in Denver," Anthony said. "I think it was kind of a win-win situation for both teams." Anthony, recovered from off-season elbow and knee surgery, hopes to be playing NBA games next month. If not, hes working to schedule an exhibition game in New York. Hes played with LeBron James and Chris Paul in the recent star-studded affairs in Philadelphia, Winston-Salem, N.C. and Miami. If so, he hinted at some "surprises" on the court. "It is New York, the game would have to be that much bigger," he said. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

HOUSTON -- Since signing with Houston this summer, Dwight Howard has been telling everyone that Terrence Jones had a chance to be a very good player. Lately, Jones has been making his new teammate look pretty smart. Jones had a career-high 36 points and 11 rebounds, and the Rockets led from the start in a 114-104 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night. "Hes been doing an excellent job," Howard said. "Hes still growing as a player and hes learning the game at a very fast pace, which is great." Jones had 25 points by halftime, matching his previous career-best set on Wednesday, and James Harden added 22 points. The second-year player has averaged 22.25 points in Houstons four games this week. "I was just trying to offensive rebound and do all the little things Ive been doing," said Jones, who had six offensive boards. "It was just coming to me tonight." Houston led by 17 points before the Bucks got within six points in the third quarter. The Rockets responded with a big run to extend the lead and hold on for the victory. Brandon Knight scored 26 points with seven assists for the NBA-worst Bucks, who have dropped eight in a row. Jones received a standing ovation when he grabbed a rebound off a missed 3-pointer by O.J. Mayo and dribbled by him with a slick spin move before driving into the lane and finishing with an off-balance layup to push the lead to 112-97 with about 2 1/2 minutes remaining. "From a physical standpoint he outmuscled us," Milwaukee coach Larry Drew said of Jones. "We knew we had to slow down Dwight and slow down James Harden and defend those guys at the 3-point line, but you dont factor in a guy like that having that type of game." Howard added 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Rockets, Aaron Brooks had 10 points and four assists and Jones also had two blocks, a steal and an assist. John Henson had 20 points and 15 rebounds for Milwaukee and Luke Ridnour added 14 points. Houston led by 13 points with about 7 minutes left in the third quarter when Milwaukee went on a 9-2 run thanks to two 3-pointers by Knight and one by Ersan Ilyasova to cut the lead to 75-69. The Rockets were up by seven soon after that when they scored nine straight points to push the lead to 89-73. Harden got that spurt going with a layup before Howard made two free throws before sinking a rare 3. The 6-foot-11 Howard, who often jokes that he should be allowed to shoot more 3s, smiled broadly and pointed at his teammates as he trotted down the court after hitting the long shot. It was his second 3 this season and the fourth of his nine-year career. The Bucks had three turnovers during that Houston run before ending their offensive drought by scoring the next five points. But Brooks swiped the ball from Knight after that, passed it to Harden, who finished with a two-handed slam to leave Houston up 91-78 entering the final period. The Rockets bounced back from a tough loss to Oklahoma City on Thursday night in which they set an NBA record for the largest scoring differential between two halves by scoring 73 points in the first half and a franchise-low 19 after halftime. Theyd matched the 19 points they scored then with 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter en route to a 62-52 halftime lead. Jones had five dunks in the first half and scored four points in the last 33 seconds of the half, capped by a nifty put back with 1.3 seconds left. He was particularly good in the second quarter when he was a perfect 7 for 7 from the field and made seven of his eight free throws for 21 points. "Hes got enough skill that he can put the ball on the floor, he can make shots, he can drive, he can finish, he can pass," Houston coach Kevin McHale said. "Hes a very versatile player and tonight he had it going." Jones played just 19 games as a rookie last season after being selected out of Kentucky with the 18th overall pick in the 2012 draft. He has appeared in 39 games this season with 34 starts. The 22-year-old Jones is the second-youngest Rocket to have a 30-point game behind Hakeem Olajuwon. The 37-year-old defender officially retired after the Montreal Impact was eliminated from the Major League Soccer playoffs, although he missed the 3-0 loss in Houston last week with an injury. Joining his teammates at a season-ending news conference on Wednesday was perhaps his last act as a player. "Im very happy because my body is tired," said Nesta. "I think its time to finish. "Twenty years at a high level -- I was lucky. I won a lot of trophies. And this is the perfect time to say stop. Ill start a new life with my family, another job. I dont know." Nesta got a standing ovation as he was feted before the Impacts final home game of the season Oct. 19. He left late in the 2-1 win over Philadelphia with a calf injury. He had earlier announced that the 2013 campaign would be his last. He will move to his house in Miami and hopes to become a coach one day, although he denied a report that he would replace Marco Schallibaum as the Impacts bench boss. Thee Rome native, a boyhood friend of Montreal striker Marco Di Vaio, joined the Impact on July 5, 2012 on a free transfer after a decade with Italian giant AC Milan.dddddddddddd. He joined Lazios youth academy in 1985 and began his pro career with the Roman club, but went to AC Milan on a 30-million Euro transfer in 2002. He won the first of two Champions League titles that season. He played 78 times for Italy and was part of the 2006 World Cup champions, although he didnt play beyond the group stage due to an injury. Nesta was named to the EUFA team of the year, an all-star team for European players, four times, and was considered by many as the best defender of his generation. Asked about his experience in MLS, Nesta said it still needs work to be a top league. "For me, the problem in this league is we have to improve tactically," he said. "Every team. "In Europe, you work every day on tactics, and when you play you feel better sometimes. Here the (Swiss) coach Schallibaum did good work. We have to go in this direction. Thats my opinion." cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

KAPALUA, Hawaii -- Brandt Snedeker starts a new year in golf with hopes of avoiding an old problem -- staying healthy. The Tournament of Champions, which starts Friday, is his first event since a freak accident in Shanghai two months ago. Snedeker was on a Segway scooter during a corporate outing at Sheshan International when he took a tumble and injured his left knee. "I had been on one all day in this pro-am," Snedeker said Wednesday. "I was going down the last hole, seeing how fast I could get it going. I hit a sprinkler head, lost control a little bit and jumped off. I landed on my knee and my knee popped." He feared he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament. Just his luck, he only suffered a small tear, along with a cracked tibia and a deep bone bruise. It was enough to keep him out of the Australian PGA, World Challenge in California and the Franklin Templeton Shootout in Florida. Harris English replaced him as Matt Kuchars partner in the Shootout, and they went on to win. Snedeker said the knee feels good, though the real test starts Friday. He spent last week playing at Hideaway in the California desert, walking 18 holes a day and carrying his own bag. The good news at Kapalua is that he has his caddie. Not so good is that the Plantation Course was built on the side of a mountain, featuring some of the steepest climbs hell face all year. "Ive had a few aches and pains of playing again, but nothing that concerns me," Snedeker said. "The only thing Im worried about is walking 18 holes here. Palm Springs is dead flag. Walking this golf course is a little different." And the last time the six-time PGA Tour winner carried his own bag? "Its funny, I got into this routine of doing it after injuries," Snedeker said. Not so funny is that it has become a routine. In his seven years on tour, Snedeker has had surgery on both hips to correct a degenerative problem. He missed the 2012 U.S. Open because of a rib injury. After one of the hottest stretches of last year -- second to Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines, second to Phil Mickelson in Phoenix and then a victory at Pebble Beach -- Snedeker had recurring problems with his ribs and missed the next month. Snedeker said his rookie season was his only injury-free year. "Its very concerning," he said. "I dont consider myself that, but the evidence bears out that I am injury-prone. Over the course of your career, youre going to have injuries. Im hoping all mine are in a five-year stretch." Hes been taking medication and paying close attention to his diet to stay on top of his fitness, but just like most people, Snedeker will stray on occasion. "You get healthy and you forget about it," he said. "You get injured and you start worrying. Im no different from anyone else." Now, he can hope thats all behind him. Snedeker believes the best part of his career is ahead of him, and hes excited about the major championship venues, with Pinehurst No. 2 among his favourite course in America. He was tied with Angel Cabrera going into the final round of the Masters last year, and he has come to love links golf at the British Open, with strong showings the last two years. His biggest goal for 2014? "Im looking forward to playing an injury-free year," he said with a grin. Dez Bryant Womens Jersey . The former Grand Slam champions have yet to drop a set through the first three rounds and each had little trouble Saturday. Nadal dropped a mere six games in a 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 rout of Frenchman Gael Monfils, while Federer lost only seven games in a 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 pounding of Russian Teymuraz Gabashvili. Murray, meanwhile, battled through a first-set tiebreaker before cruising the rest of the way in a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, 6-2 victory over Spains Feliciano Lopez. The top-seeded Nadal broke Monfils serve to start the match and battled through a tough first service game of his own to set the tone Saturday night at Laver Arena. There wasnt much drama afterward. Nadal finished off the first set in 39 minutes and again breezed through the second in 36 before Monfils put up a fight in the third. Tied at 3-3, Monfils had a couple of break chances, but Nadal was up to the task each time and went on to hold serve. Monfils spirit was broken and so was his serve in the next game. Nadal then held at love to finish it. "Tonight, I think I played a great match," said Nadal. "Very happy the way that I played against a very tough opponent like Gael. So that makes the level that I played tonight better, because (it) was against tough opponent." Monfils failed on each of his six break-point chances throughout the match and committed a whopping 57 unforced errors. "Definitely, today he was in great shape," said Monfils, who went the distance against Nadal in the Doha final to start 2014. "Been a while since I played Rafa like that." Nadal, who missed last years Australian Open while recovering from a knee issue, will continue his quest for a second title in Melbourne against Japans Kei Nishikori, a 7-5, 6-1, 6-0 winner over American Donald Young. Nadal, the 2009 winner, is 5-0 lifetime against Nishikori. Federer, the four-time Aussie Open champ, is seeded sixth this year after his troubling 2013 season that featured only one tournament title and no Grand Slam finals. He hasnt had any issues beating overmatched opponents in the first three rounds this week, including Saturdays triumph. "Im happy that from my side Im winning my matches in straight sets," said Federer. "Its been different condditions every match: the heat first and the indoor match and now normal conditions today with a bit of wind.dddddddddddd So its just good to get through and get a good feel out there and make sure if youve got a chance to win your matches easier to do so." It starts to toughen up next with 10th-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who advanced Saturday with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 6-2 win over fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon. "Its always difficult when you play a friend, Ive known him since we were nine or 10," said Tsonga about beating Simon. "Its like we create a little war." A battle against 17-time major champ Federer now awaits Tsonga, whose best Grand Slam result came with a runner-up finish to Novak Djokovic in the 2008 Australian Open final. Federer beat Tsonga in last years quarterfinals in Melbourne, but Tsonga earned a measure of revenge with a quarterfinal win at the French Open. "Its a good opportunity for me to play him again," said Tsonga. "Its always nice to play against such a good player. The tournament continues for me and Im feeling good." Murray, a three-time Aussie Open runner-up, is battling back pain, but has shown no ill effects yet. "Ive recovered well after the matches," the reigning Wimbledon champ said about his back. "You know, from time to time a bit of stiffness and soreness, but for the most part its been good." Next up for the Scotsman will be French lucky loser Stephane Robert, who has played his way into the fourth round after entering the tournament following the withdrawal of Philip Kohlschreiber. "I dont know him personally, so maybe next tournament when I see him Im going to tell him, like, thank you," Robert said when asked if he had spoken with the German. Spains Roberto Bautista Agut followed up his upset of fifth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro with a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 romp over Frenchman Benoit Paire and will next face Bulgarias Grigor Dimitrov, a four-set winner over 11th-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic. The fourth round starts Sunday with a quartet of matches. Djokovic will continue his push for a fourth straight Aussie Open crown against Italys Fabio Fognini, while third-seeded David Ferrer will square off against Germanys Florian Mayer. Switzerlands Stanislas Wawrinka will face Spains Tommy Robredo and Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic will battle South Africas Kevin Anderson. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

NEW YORK -- To Derek Jeter, it was just another day to get ready for spring training. On a minor league field at the New York Yankees complex in Florida, he took batting practice, fielded grounders and chatted with teammates. And then he drove away in his Mercedes, offering no hint that the countdown to his retirement had already begun. Hours later, Jeter alerted the sports world: This will be his final season. "I know it in my heart. The 2014 season will be my last year playing professional baseball," Jeter posted Wednesday in a long letter on his Facebook page. "I have gotten the very most out of my life playing baseball, and I have absolutely no regrets," the shortstop wrote. While it was no secret the team captain was getting close to the end of his brilliant career as he neared 40 -- especially after injuries wrecked him last season -- Jeters announcement caught many by surprise. In fact, some people wondered whether his account had been hacked. But it was quickly confirmed that one of the greatest players in the history of baseballs most storied franchise was serious. A 13-time All-Star shortstop who led the Yankees to five World Series championships, Jeter was the last link to the powerful Yankees teams that won three straight crowns from 1998-2000. Longtime teammates Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte retired after last year. "Derek Jeter is Mr. Yankee of his era," Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner told The Associated Press. "He was the face of one of the greatest teams ever." Jeter was limited to 17 games last season while trying to recover from a broken left ankle sustained during the 2012 playoffs. He hit only .190 with one homer and seven RBIs. "Last year was a tough one for me. As I suffered through a bunch of injuries, I realized that some of the things that always came easily to me and were always fun had started to become a struggle," Jeter wrote. "The one thing I always said to myself was that when baseball started to feel more like a job, it would be time to move forward." "So really it was months ago when I realized that this season would likely be my last. As I came to this conclusion and shared it with my friends and family, they all told me to hold off saying anything until I was absolutely 100 per cent sure," he wrote. "And the thing is, I could not be more sure," he wrote. His agent, Casey Close, said Jeter wanted to declare his intentions before the Yankees start spring training later this week so that his future status wouldnt be a distraction. The Yankees open camp for pitchers and catchers on Friday. Jeter has said hes healthy and ready to go -- at 39, his next birthday is in June. "Derek called me this morning to tell me that he planned to retire following the season," Yankees Managing General Partner Hal Steinbrenner said. Said Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly, a former Jeter teammate: "Im excited for him. Its kind of nice to see him go out on his own terms." Jeter is the Yankees career hits leader with 3,316. Hes ninth on the all-time list; a 200-hit season would put him in fifth place. Jeter is a lifetime .312 hitter in 19 seasons, with 256 home runs and 1,261 RBIs. He has scored 1,876 runs, stolen 348 bases and is a five-time Gold Glove winner. Added up, his numbers put him among the greats in Yankees history, with fans often invoking the names of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle when mentioning Jeters legacy. But No. 2 is defined by so much more than his numbers. His backhanded flip in the playoffs, his diving catch into the stands, his speech to close old Yankee Stadium and his home run for career hit No. 3,000. An October presence for so many years -- Jeter is a career .321 hitter in seven World Series -- he also became Mr. November in 2001. His winning, 10th-inning homer came shortly after midnight in a Game 4 that began on Halloween. Jeter was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1996, the season the Yankees won their first World Series since 1978 and re-established themselves as a major force. He was the MVP of the 2000 World Series. Commissioner Bud Selig said during his tenure, "Major League Baseball has had no finer ambassador than Derek Jeter." A staple for so long in the Yankees lineup, Jeter missed the first 91 games last year. He felt pain in his right quadriceps when he returned July 11 and again went on the disabled list. Jeter came back for three games but strained his right calf. In early September, he was done for the year. The Yankees will open the 2014 regular season on April 1 in Houston. Their final game is scheduled to be at Fenway Park, against the longtime rival Boston Red Sox. Rivera announced a year in advance that he would retire, and was saluted everywhere he played last season. Jeter is sure to get a similar farewell tour. "I wish everybody does it like that," Rivera told ESPN radio. "I think that would be the right thing for him to do." Jeter wrote that he wants to pursue business and other interests "in addition to focusing more on my personal life and starting a family of my own." "And I want the ability to move at my own pace, see the world and finally have a summer vacation," he said. "But before that, I want to soak in every moment of every day this year, so I can remember it for the rest of my life. And most importantly, I want to help the Yankees reach our goal of winning another championship," he said. Jimmie Foxx Red Jersey . Oshie scored 3:29 into overtime, jamming the puck in from the side of the net as the Blues won 3-2 on Thursday night. "It was a pretty lucky bounce," Oshie said. "It hit off me and went straight toward the net and I just started whacking and poked it in there. Well take the point for sure." Boston goalie Tuukka Rask didnt have much a chance on Oshies unassisted goal. "It hit Oshies skate and it hit the back of the net and it was on his stick and then he backed it off my pad I guess," Rask said. "What are you going to do?" It was the third straight home game that went to overtime for the Blues. Alexander Steen and Jaden Schwartz also scored for St. Louis, which blew a 2-0 lead in the third period as Boston scored in a span of just over 2 minutes. St. Louis also blew a two-goal lead Tuesday in a shootout loss to Ottawa. Boston had won in its last three trips to St. Louis, and this was the first Blues home win against the Bruins since Oct. 6, 2006, in a shootout. The last regulation win at home against Boston came on Dec. 18, 1999. "I think when you play Boston, I think its a great evaluator," St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock said. "It gives you a real good read on your competitive level. It gives you a great read on your execution under pressure." David Krejci and Brad Marchand scored for the Bruins. Steen gave the Blues a 1-0 lead with his 28th goal when he ripped a slap shot from the top of the right circle to beat Rask at 15:48 of the first period. Jaden Schwartz fed the puck to Steen, who has eight points in his last nine games. Schwartz made it 2-0 when he snapped a wrist shot from the left circle at 3:32 of the second period.dddddddddddd. The shot by Schwartz grazed the left shoulder of Rusk, who was screened by Kevan Miller. It was the 18th goal by Schwartz. St. Louis Jaroslav Halak stopped 24 shots in the first two periods before allowing two on the first seven shots in the third. "Our most competitive player tonight was our goalie," Hitchcock said. "I mean, the goalie was outstanding. He helped us a lot." Krejci scored for Boston on a wrist shot from the top of the slot at 9:16, and Marchand then scored on a rebound of a shot by Johnny Boychuck at 11:24. "I dont think I could have done anything different about those two," Halak said. "I think we responded the right way after they scored. We skated hard. We battled hard." The Blues went 0-for-3 on the power play, and are now 0-for-12 in the last three games. Boston is 7-2-1 in its last 10 games, and the Bruins dropped their first on the road in their last six games. "I thought our team played extremely well and probably deserved better," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "It was an unfortunate bounce to lose that game in overtime, but still a great effort from our team." NOTES: Hall of Fame inductee and former St. Louis Rams player Aeneas Williams dropped the ceremonial first puck. ... Boston captain Zdeno Chara was not at the game. But when hes eligible to come off long-term injured reserve Dec. 29, the Toronto Maple Leafs centre figures his torn oblique will be healed up enough to get back into the lineup. "Its still getting better every day. It feels pretty good now," Bozak said Thursday. "If theres a problem, maybe, but right now it looks like Ill be back right when IR ends." Bozak has been out since Dec. 5 and missed Torontos home game Thursday night against Phoenix. And with the Leafs having placed him on the long-term list, Bozak must also miss upcoming games against Detroit, the New York Rangers and Buffalo before being free to return against Carolina three days before the Winter Classic. The 27-year-old skated with teammates Thursday at the Air Canada Centre but hes obviously on his own track while the Leafs seek to reverse their fortunes. After missing 12 games earlier this year with a hamstring injury, Bozak is dealing with another difficult problem with his oblique. "Kind of like the same thing last year but a lot worse this year," he said. "I dont know what it is, to be honest. "I kind of stressed it a lot on faceoffs. I think it mightve happened on that. I think its just pretty unlucky and nothing you can get too down on yourself about." Bozaks injury came with the Leafs already missing centre Dave Bolland, who still hasnt resumed skating after haviing a tendon in the back of his ankle severed in late October.dddddddddddd The latest injury down the middle came Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers when impressive journeyman callup Trevor Smith broke a bone in his right hand blocking a shot. "I dont know whats going on with us," Bozak said of Torontos injury woes. "I think its all been pretty unfortunate stuff with Smitty and Bolly, things that you never want to see happen and they cant really control by any means." Bozak cant control much right now other than his rehab. Being forced to watch the Leafs go 3-5-0 without him certainly hasnt helped matters. "Its not fun to watch, its never fun to watch," Bozak said. "Its not fun to watch if youre winning or if youre losing. "Obviously you want to be out there helping the guys and stuff like that." Bozak is used to being able to help, typically as the No. 1 centre alongside roommate and friend Phil Kessel, who had two goals in the eight games prior to Thursdays contest with Phoenix. Bozak hasnt had any season like this before and is trying to stay positive. "Ive not really been injured at all, knock on wood, except for college I had surgery on my one knee the one year," he said. "My first years here I missed a handful of games each year, but nothing too serious. "Obviously its been tough, but I hope I can come back stronger and help the team." cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

AUSTIN, Texas -- Lance Armstrong talked for several hours with cycling investigators about doping in the sports past, said an attorney for the American who was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles for doping. Armstrong attorney Elliot Peters told The Associated Press that Armstrong set up the meeting and sat for questions for seven hours on May 22, and described the session at a hotel outside Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C., as a "very good meeting." "They asked him about everything. ... If you made a list of all the questions people would want to ask about Lance and his activities in cycling and everything else, those were the questions that were asked and answered," Peters said. The probe has been expected to centre on the International Cycling Unions handling of doping in the late 1990s and early 2000s, especially its links with Armstrong. Armstrongs willingness to meet with investigators has been seen as crucial to their efforts to determine whether former officials with the sports governing body aided his doping as the Texan became cyclings biggest star. Armstrong won the Tour every year from 1999-2005. Those titles were stripped after a massive report by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency detailed doping by Armstrong and his U.S. Postal Service teammates. Peters declined to detail exactly who was in the room or what Armstrong told them, but said Armstrong met with three people "running" the Cycling Independent Reform Commission and their attorney. A spokesman for the group did not immediately return a call or text message seeking comment on Thursday. The commission is chaired by Dick Marty, a Swiss politician and former Swiss state prosecutor. The other members are German anti-doping expert Ulrich Haas and Peter Nicholson, a former Australian military officer and war crimes investigator. Armstrong had previously said hed be willing to talk to the panel, and Peters said Armstrong had him contact the commission to set up the meeting. UCI President Brian Cookson has said in the past that Armstrongs lifetime ban for doping could be reduced if he provides information which assists other doping investigations. The panel has the authority to cut deals with cheaters who provide valuable information. But Peters said Armstrong did not ask for, and was not offered such a deal in exchange for meeting with the group. "There is no agreement and that was never discussed. We never asked for one," Peters said. "We do think the ban was unfairly harsh and should be reduced. ... Hes talking in the spirit of not trying to benefit by getting somebody else in trouble, but in the spirit of lets tell the truth." Armstrongs meeting with the CRIC was voluntary but he has been forced to testify under oath in lawsuits in Texas. Last month, Armstrong was questioned in a private arbitration dispute with a Dallas company seeking repayment of $12 million in bonuses it paid him during his career. In late 2013, Armstrong provided sworn written testimony in another lawsuit seeking repayment of other bonus awards. In that testimony, Armstrong named several people he says knew about his performance-enhancing drug use, but also insisted he didnt pay anyone or any organization to keep his doping secret. Armstrong also is facing a federal whistleblower lawsuit filed by former teammate Floyd Landis. The government joined Landis lawsuit and is seeking to recover about $40 million in U.S. Postal Service sponsorship money paid to Armstrong and his teams. Under the False Claims Act, penalties in the case could run as high as $100 million. Armstrong has so far refused to provide sworn testimony to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. USADA has questioned whether Armstrong paid officials at the UCI to keep his doping secret. Armstrong has said in interviews that former UCI president Hein Verbruggen helped him cover up doping at the 1999 Tour, a charge Verbruggen has denied. REGINA -- The Grey Cup-champion Saskatchewan Roughriders released all-star slotback Weston Dressler on Thursday. The move wasnt a surprise. Dressler, 28, was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 15 and was exploring his NFL options. Dave Naylor of TSN Radio 1050 confirms Dressler has agreed to join the Kansas City Chiefs, the team he worked out with earlier this month, pending a physical. Riders assistant GM Jeremy ODay said that could happen very soon. "Weston and his agent were very up front they were going to go through the process and we were made aware of a possible situation coming up in the next couple of days where Weston was more than likely going to get an opportunity," ODay told reporters. "From our standpoint its tough to lose such a good player thats been here for a long time, is a leader in the locker-room. "But again, youve got to feel happy for him that he gets that opportunity. He hasnt gone through the process of being in the NFL and as any competitor you just want to see how you compare with the best available players. We wish him the best." The five-foot-eight, 179-pound native of Bismarck, N.D., has spent the past six seasons in Regina, having registered 442 catches for 6,531 yards and 43 TDs. He has surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving plateau five times in his career, including the last four years. Dressler had five catches for a game-high 81 yards and a touchdown in Saskatchewans 45-23 Grey Cup victory over Hamilton. Dressler is a two-time CFL all-star and was the leagues top rookie in 08. PARIS -- A ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday to celebrate Paris Saint-Germains league title was cancelled after rioting marred festivities in the centre of the French capital, and Frances Interior Minister responded to the public outcry by calling a top-level meeting to discuss what went wrong. PSG players had been scheduled to raise the championship trophy aloft from City Halls balcony on Wednesday evening, but those plans were scrapped Tuesday, the Paris mayors office said. "The day after the riots that sabotaged this great celebration of PSGs coronation, damaged Paris and deeply hurt Parisians, I would like to express my disgust and anger with regards to the surge of violence that several hundred thugs were responsible for," Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe said. "I ask the Interior Minister to step up the fight against this time type of phenomenon outside of the Parc des Princes stadium. Thugs wont have the last word in Paris." Interior Minsiter Manuel Valls responded by summoning representatives from PSG, the French football league, the police department, the mayors office, and anti-hooliganism officials for a meeting later Tuesday. "I obviously assume my part of responsibility in this fiasco," French league president Frederic Thiriez said in a statement, referring to the fact that the LFP had given the go-ahead for the presentation to be held at the landmark Trocadero plaza, rather than at the far more secure Parc des Princes stadium this coming Saturday against Brest. "The party was ruined and could have had dramatic consequences because of a bunch of thugs ... who have nothing to do with football but take advantage of it to take part in criminal activities," Thiriez added. "Paris didnt deserve this." PSGs moonlit boat-trip along the Seine river on Monday night had also been cancelled -- but that was the least of the clubs worries. The celebrations Monday to honour PSGs first title in 19 years were cut short amid violent scenes that started at the Trocadero, near the Eiffel Tower, as fans fought with riot police. More than 30 people were injured -- including three police officers -- and 21 were arrested. The rioting dealt a serious blow to the clubs bid to restore its image following years of fan violence plagued the club. PSG has not commented beyond a statement released late Monday night which said "today should have been a day of celebration for the city of Paris," but that "the party was spoiled by a few hundred troublemakers who have nothing to do with football." A total of 800 officers were deployed to contain the supporters, and they took several hours to bring a situation under control that included the smashing of store and car windows near the Champs Elysees. "All public demonstrations in public spaces surrounding Paris Saint-Germain are clearly not possible anytime soon," Valls said earlier Tuesday on Europe 1 radio. "Football is still sick. Thats the case for Paris Saint-Germain and for other clubs." Valls could find himself under pressure, as this is not the first time police authorities have been caught out this season. Prior to PSGs Champions League home match against Dinamo Zagreb in November, about 100 hooligans from PSG and Dinamo clashed in the highly populated Bastille area the night before the game -- even though there was already a decree in place banning the opposition fans from attending the game. That led to 28 arrests. Media reactions to the violence implicated former PSG fan groups in the violence. But in a collective statement on Tuesday, these groups, known as Ultras, said they are angry at being associated with the violence because, even though some of them were present at the Trocadero they were not involved in the violence and had even tried to calm it down by making pleas over loud speakers. Under former president Robin Leproux, PSG disbanded all known fan groups and radically changed ticketing policy following the death of a PSG supporter after vicious infighting between fans outside the Parc des Princes stadium in February, 2010. That followed the hooligan-related death of another PSG fan in November 2006 following skirmishes after a UEFA Cup match. The Dallas Stars forward missed a game last week with a recurrence of the problem. His biggest scare came Monday night when he collapsed on the bench early in a game against Columbus and was rushed through a tunnel and stabilized. The 31-year-old Peverley ended up in good condition at a Dallas hospital, but the episode shook his teammates and led to the games postponement with the Blue Jackets leading 1-0 in the first period. "When he dropped, it was red alert," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "Dont worry about the game. It was about getting the doctors. The players dont want to play, and I dont want to coach the team right now." After Peverley collapsed, Dallas players were pounding their sticks on the boards to try to get the attention of officials. When that didnt work, they started jumping off the bench onto the ice with the game going on. After the game stopped and the chaotic scene played out, the Stars stood in stunned silence, clearly in distress, unsure what had happened to a player they knew had a history of heart problems. "I was scared," Ruff said. Stars forward Erik Cole tried to rush into the tunnel just after Peverley was carried through, only to be turned away. He then gnawed at the thumb on one of his gloves while he waited for word on what the players would do next. Sergei Gonchar stared blankly near fellow defenceman Trevor Daley, who was hunched over on the bench, wiping his face with a towel. Play was halted at 6:23, and the postponement was announced about 30 minutes later. Dr. Gil Salazar of UT Southwestern Hospitals said Peverley was treated "successfully" for a cardiac event at American Airlines Center. "We provided oxygen for him," Salazar said. "We started an IV. We did chest compressions on him and defibrillated him, provided some electricity to bring a rhythm back to his heart, and that was successful with one attempt, which is very reassuring. "As soon as we treated him, he regained consciousness. He was able to tell me where he was." Many in the hushed crowd lingered long after the postponement was announced "as a result of the emotional state of the players on both teams caused by the medical emergency." The NHL didnt say when the game would be rescheduledd.dddddddddddd Peverleys wife, Nathalie, accompanied him to a hospital, and the Stars essentially told the Blue Jackets they werent up for finishing the game. "Theyre shaken and they want to reschedule. We understand that," John Davidson, the Blue Jackets president of hockey operations, told Fox Sports Ohio. "They were shaken to the core." Peverley missed the preseason and the season opener after the procedure during training camp. He made his Stars debut on Oct. 5 against Washington. "We monitor him closely for a different type of arrhythmia he has," Salazar said. "He does have a pre-existing condition, and the condition -- a normal quivering of the heart that does not allow him to send blood to places where he needs to, in his brain and heart." Peverley sat out last weeks game at Columbus and couldnt fly because he felt strange. But he played in Dallas next two games before Monday. "There wasnt any concern," Ruff said. "Our doctors have done a fabulous job monitoring the situation." In 62 games this season before Monday, Peverley had seven goals and 23 assists. He was acquired last July from Boston with forward Tyler Seguin and defenceman Ryan Button for forwards Loui Eriksson, Reilly Smith and Matt Fraser, and defenceman Joe Morrow. "The first thing (Peverley) asked me was how much time was left in the first period," Ruff said. The Stars went to the airport after the postponement, and even had a scheduled departure for St. Louis that was earlier than it would have been if the game was played. Dallas is scheduled to play the Blues on Tuesday night. "Hes going to be OK," Ruff said. "The care hes getting and the care going forward is the most important thing." On Tuesday, Stars general manager Jim Nill released an updated statement on Peverleys condition. "Rich Peverley is resting comfortably and being monitored at UT Southwestern St. Paul. He is currently undergoing testing to discover what triggered the cardiac event last night. The focus of all the testing and monitoring is being dedicated to finding the cause of the event and a long-term solution to rectify the problem. We do not have any more specifics at the moment. Rich has been communicating with his teammates and friends. He is extremely grateful for all of the prayers and support that hes received from fans and friends alike." cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- It took a masterful performance for Jake Odorizzi to get a rare win. Odorizzi allowed one hit and struck out 10 while pitching into the eighth inning as the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Houston Astros 8-0 on Saturday. "A lot of things went right today," Odorizzi said. Odorizzi (3-7) retired his first 10 batters before Jose Altuves one-out infield single in the fourth that went off the pitchers foot. The right-hander, who went 7 1/3 innings, won for just the second time in his last 14 starts. "Tough luck," Odorizzi said of Altuves hit. "It was coming too fast." Only one runner reached second base against Odorizzi, who walked two. Brad Boxberger and Kirby Yates completed the one-hitter. "Thats the kind of game were capable of, absolutely," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said. "We finally got the hits when we needed them and the pitching was outstanding. Jake was really good." The Rays are 7-18 in their last 25 games. They have nine shutouts this year. Jake Buchanan (0-1) gave up five runs, eight hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings in his major league debut. He had his contract purchased from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill in for Brad Peacock, who was scratched from his scheduled start after having food poisoning earlier in the week. "It was pretty exciting to get out there and pitch in a big league game," Buchanan said. "I tried to settle in and battle and did the best I could." Kevin Kiermaier had an RBI double and James Loney hit a run-scoring single as the Rays took a 2-0 lead in the first. Buchanan avoided further damage by getting an inning-ending grounder from Yunel Escobar with the bases loaded. Tampa Bay had a three-run fifth to take a 5-0 lead. Brandon Guyer drove in a run with single before Matt Joyce had an RBI double that ended Buchanans day. Ryan Hanigan added a run-scoring double against Jerome Williams. Loney had a two-run single in a three-run eighth that extended the Rays lead to 8-0. Altuve went 1 for 3 with a walk, and has 12 hits in his last 21 at-bats. It was the ninth time this season, and second in three days, that Houston was shut out. "Thats the nature of baseball," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "You cant let a bad today ruin a great tomorrow. We come back (Sunday) and have an opportunity to get a split in a four-game series on the road, which is always good." NOTES: The teams wore retro 1970s uniforms on "Turn Back the Clock Day." OKLAHOMA CITY -- Thunder fans who braved ice, snow and single-digit temperatures got a special treat -- a look at the old Russell Westbrook. The three-time All-Star scored 26 points to lead Oklahoma City past the Charlotte Bobcats 116-99 Sunday night. He was 10 of 12 from the floor in 25 minutes in his fifth game since returning from right knee surgery. He has steadily improved and is looking more like the player he was before he missed 27 games. "He was aggressive all night, playing downhill on the pick and rolls," said Thunder forward Kevin Durant, who finished with 28 points. "He was just great tonight. That was good to see." Westbrook said he needed time to get comfortable again. "The more I play, the more rhythm Im able to catch and the more rhythm Im able to get," he said. Reggie Jackson scored 17 points and Serge Ibaka had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Thunder, who won their second straight after losing their first three games following the All-Star break. Oklahoma City outrebounded the Bobcats 44-29. Durant made just 8 of 24 field goals, but sank all 12 of his free throws. He also had six rebounds and five assists. "I get a lot of shots, man," Durant said. "Theres going to be nights when I feel like that. Its a part of the game, and I think thats the beauty of the game -- just trying to fight through the obstacles, do what I can to help my team." Al Jefferson scored 25 points and Anthony Tolliver added 17 for the Bobcats, who had won four straight before losses to San Antonio and Oklahoma City. The Thunder made 13 of 24 shots in the fourth quarter to outscore the Bobcats 31-18. Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said his team had the wrong mindset to close the game. "I think through three quarters we did a good job, but we came out in the fourth, and again, particularly when they brought their starters back, we just couldnt contain the ball and couldnt keep the ball out of the paint, which has been something weve been good at all year," he said. Westbrook scored 17 points on 7-for-7 shooting in the first half to help the Thunder take a 61-55 lead at the break. "He set the tone the first half," Clifford said. "He always plays with high energy, and if hes going to make all the shots, then theyre going to be hard to beat." Jefferson had 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting. The Bobcats shot 54 per cent in the first half, but were outrebounded 20-13. The Bobcats started off hot in the second half. A 3-point play by Gerald Henderson trimmed Oklahoma Citys lead to 61-60. The Thunder responded with a 6-0 run, including two putback baskets by Steven Adams, to take a 67-60 lead. Westbrook showed some of his explosiveness after a steal. He drove down court, then extended his right arm and elevated for a powerful one-handed throwdown to give the Thunder a 77-67 lead. "Tonight, he was phenomenal," Durant said. "He was great. That dunk capped it off." The Bobcats hung tough and trailed just 85-81 at the end of the third quarter. Charlotte cut the deficit to 86-84 early in the fourth quarter, but the Thunder responded with an 8-2 run. A perfectly executed pick-and-roll ended with Durant scoring on a pass from Westbrook, and Ibaka scored on the next possession to give the Thunder a 104-92 lead and put the game out of reach. Westbrook, who also had five assists, dominated from the start. "I thought Russell really had a great command of the game," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "I think it is good to see him continue to get his game legs under him. I give the staff a lot of credit. They have put him in a position to get better day by day." NOTES: Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti announced before the game that Thunder guard Thabo Sefolosha would miss four to six weeks with a left calf strain. Sefolosha left Fridays game against Memphis in the first half and didnt return. ... Several Oklahoma City players, including Durant and Westbrook, travelled to Stillwater, Okla., Saturday night to watch Oklahoma State upset No. 5 Kansas. ... Presti said new acquisition Caron Butler will be with the team Monday after the Thunder signed him Saturday. ... The Korea Football Association announced Thursday that Park Joo-ho will join the 23-man squad to replace the 21-year-old Kim, a Japan-based left back who has played nine internationals since Hong Myung-bo took over as head coach last year.PORTLAND, Ore. - Wesley Matthews got Portland off to a fast start, and Gerald Wallace took care of everything else. Matthews scored 17 of his 28 points in the first quarter, Wallace had a terrific all-around game and the Trail Blazers beat the Philadelphia 76ers 110-101 Saturday night. We came out tonight and played great, said LaMarcus Aldridge, who had 18 points. Wesley got going early. Gerald came through late and closed it out for us. It was Wallaces best performance since he was acquired from Charlotte at the trade deadline in February. The six-foot-seven forward had 25 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals as Portland won for the seventh time in nine games. Lou Williams scored 24 for the Sixers, part of a 59-point night for Philadelphias reserves. Thaddeus Young had 19 points and Jodie Meeks added 17. The Sixers (36-34) played without Andre Igoudala, who has been bothered by knee tendinitis. Leading scorer Elton Brand was held to 10 points. That team played as well against us as any team has played in a long time, Philadelphia coach Doug Collins said. I talked to (Blazer coach) Nate (McMillan) after the game — the addition of Gerald Wallace, hes playing like he did when he was an All-Star at Charlotte. The Blazers led the whole way. Philadelphia was as close as 92-89 with 9:11 remaining after Brand hit three straight shots, but Portland responded with a 9-0 run. Philadelphia was coming off a 102-80 victory at Sacramento on Friday night and wrapping up a five-game road trip. But the 76ers showed little fatigue, shooting 50 per cent from the field and playing aggressive in transition. Still, they couldnt capitalize on runs, and had costly fouls and turnovers at key moments. Some games you kind of beat yourself, Brand said.ddddddddddddWe felt like we made too many mistakes, but they played great. They beat us and they played great. Gerald Wallace was everywhere against us and running the floor and it hurt us. Wallace showed why he was nicknamed Crash in Charlotte, coming up with big plays on both ends of the floor and frustrating the much bigger Brand inside. He made big plays down the stretch, McMillan said about Wallace. A few loose balls, a couple of threes — just in the right place at the right time. The Blazers, who beat Cleveland 111-70 on Thursday night, led 62-54 at halftime. Matthews had 20 points at the break after hitting six three-pointers and seven of his eight shots. Wallace converted a three-point play to increase Portlands lead to 83-73, but Philadelphia closed the third with a 10-4 surge. Williams capped the spurt with a three-pointer. The Blazers improved to a half-game behind Denver for fifth place in the Western Conference playoff race. However, Portland does not have an easy schedule down the stretch, with 10 of its final 13 games against teams with winning records. Seven of those games are against the Los Angeles s, San Antonio, Dallas and Oklahoma City, the top four teams in the West. The Blazers are at the Lakers on Sunday. We know its going to be a tough one, McMillan said. We havent beaten them this year — we had an opportunity right after the break — and theyre defending champions so we know its going to be a tough challenge. NOTES: The Blazers made 25-of-29 free throws, hitting their first 16 through three quarters. ... The Sixers had beaten Portland in seven of their last 10 meetings at the Rose Garden. ... Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - John Wall deposited 21 points with 13 assists and nine rebounds to lead the Washington Wizards to a 98-92 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. Bradley Beal tallied 19 points and Otto Porter added 12 for the Wizards, who have won two straight after a two-game skid. Im not feeling great, Ive got a migraine, said Wall. I played because I didnt want to let my guys down. We didnt come out with a sense of urgency. We started competing in the second half. It starts with me ... I had to get going. Los Angeles is mired in a nine-game losing streak, the first such skid since a 10-game run in April 1994. Wayne Ellington poured in 20 of his career-high 28 points in the first half for the Lakers. Rookie Jordan Clarkson had a career-best 18 points in the loss. The Wizards gained some separation with six straight points to make it an 86-80 game with over eight minutes on the clock. Los Angeles trimmed its deficit to two with 3 1/2 to play after a Wesley Johnson 3-pointer, but Porter converted a layup moments later for a 95-90 edge. With under a minute left, Beal rattled home a mid-range jumper to extend the lead to seven and Washington grabbed the win. The Lakers got off to a solid start in trying to snap their lengthy losing skid. Ellington highlighted a 12-2 run with a four-point play that helped Los Angeles to a 14-7 lead early in the first. Leading by seven after the first, the Lakers opened the second on a 7-0 burst, with Ellington netting the final five points to increase their margin to 38-24. Los Angeles held a 57-46 lead at the break. Washington got back into the game, tying it at 68-68 thanks to a 14-0 surge that Porter capped with a three-point play late in the third. The Lakers went into the fourth holding a 76-75 edge. I thought defensively they just started getting up in us, then there was a stretch in the third quarter where we just couldnt make a shot. That was basically the game, Lakers coach Byron Scott said. Game Notes Washington closes out its four-game road trip in Phoenix on Wednesday ... Erik Karlsson and the Ottawa Senators felt good after their 3-1 defeat of the Washington Capitals on Monday, their first back-to-back victory in 51 days and their first three-game winning streak at the Canadian Tire Centre this season.NEW YORK -- Henrik Lundqvist didnt allow a bad ending to the second period wreck an otherwise good day for the New York Rangers. Lundqvist was the beneficiary of a three-goal lead that was trimmed to two when the Philadelphia Flyers got their power play to work in the closing seconds of the middle period. But the Rangers kept it together in the third, withstood a late surge, and pushed the Flyers to the brink of elimination with a 4-2 victory Sunday. "The biggest part to me was to calm down and not be too upset about it," Lundqvist said of Vinny Lecavaliers goal with 32.6 seconds left that made it 3-1. "It is really frustrating to sit here when you give up a goal like that late in the period. "It was just about letting it go and being focused on the right things going into the third." Brad Richards and Dominic Moore scored in the second to make it 3-0. Lundqvist stopped 24 shots and didnt face more than 10 in any period. The only other puck that got past him was Claude Girouxs goal with 1:29 left after the Flyers pulled goalie Steve Mason. Defenceman Marc Staal gave the Rangers the lead in the first, and Brian Boyle ended the drama with an empty-net goal with 15 seconds remaining. Moore helped seal the win when he raced up ice to negate an icing call and fed Boyle. New York leads the series 3-2 and can advance to the second round with a win Tuesday in Philadelphia. If necessary, a deciding seventh game would be back at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. The teams have alternated wins this series. "We took back the advantage, and we have to win one now," Richards said. "We put ourselves in a good position. We were in control for most of the game. They got a little sneaky there at the end." Mason wasnt nearly as sharp in his second straight start following a late-season injury. He stopped 18 shots after his 37-save effort in a 2-1 victory in Game 4 got the Flyers even. "As you go through a series, you have to keep elevating your game because the other side will," Rangers forward Martin St. Louis said. "I thought we did that, and we got rewarded." Giroux made things interesting with his first goal of the series. The Flyers went 0-2 during the season at the Garden and are 1-2 there during this series. "Were playing well," Girouux said.dddddddddddd "Its a tough building to play in. Game 6 is going to be huge. We are not looking at it like its our last game of the season. Weve come back all season long when it matters, and were going to stay confident." New York is 13-2 in series it has led 3-2, but the Rangers have lost 11 straight games in which they had a series lead. Philadelphia is 7-10 in Game 6 when trailing 3-2. The Rangers increased their pressure in tight on Mason, a stated objective, and created multiple scoring chances in the second even though they managed only eight shots. New York thought it grabbed a 2-0 lead 2:14 in when St. Louis poked in a loose puck in the crease, but the play had been blown dead. The Rangers took their two-goal lead on Richards second of the series and 30th career playoff score. With a crowd around Mason, Richards tucked in a backhander at the left post off assists from J.T. Miller and Carl Hagelin. Unlike in previous games in which the Flyers rallied after being down 2-0, New York pushed its edge to 3-0 later in the period with a big assist from Philadelphia defenceman Hal Gill, playing his first game of the series. Gill was unable to handle a rough pass at his blue line from defence partner Braydon Coburn. Moore swooped in to poke the puck behind him and skate in alone. Moore beat Mason for his second of the series and then leapt into the arms of Boyle, sending them both to the ice. "I tried to kick (the puck) up, and I kicked it back," Gill said. "I have to make that play, and I didnt. When youre in the playoffs, you make a little mistake and it costs you." Philadelphia took advantage on its fifth power play when Lecavalier scored his first of the series and 25th in 68 career playoff games. The Rangers had six shots on Mason in the first period, but Staal made it 1-0 with his first goal in 29 games, dating to Jan. 26 against New Jersey outdoors at Yankee Stadium. NOTES: The Rangers put the 21-year-old Miller into the lineup in place of agitator Daniel Carcillo. It was Millers career post-season debut. ... The 39-year-old Gill replaced defenceman Nick Grossmann, who injured his right knee in Game 4. Gill played in only six regular-season games. ...
